Pakistan is a country blessed with pop music talent, and it is difficult to choose the best Pakistani pop song from numbers like ‘Huwa Huwa’, ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’ and ‘Garuj Burus’. Pakistani pop artists are famous all over the world, not neglecting Alamgir’s contribution to Pakistani pop music genre. He laid the foundation for numerous other pop music composers, by not only singing, but also by performing on the stage as well as very famous for the local concert performance. His ‘dekha na tha kabhi humne ye sama’ was a smashing hit, and he continued to add to his compositions with ‘ye sham aur tera naam’, and ‘maine tumhare gagar se’. Nazia Hassan was the Pakistani singer who crossed the borders and came to India to sing the hit song ‘aap jaisa koi’ for the Hindi film ‘Qurbani’. Nazia, Zohaib and Biddu together released an album ‘Disco Deewane’ which came out to be the biggest selling pop album in Pakistan.
With the success of Pakistani pop music, musicians like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, coming from non-pop genre, also experimented with pop. He was such a hit, and he also gave music to Bollywood and Hollywood film industries. Junoon was the most successful pop band of Pakistan, which intersected folk with pop, and vice versa.
In the due course of time, private channels came into the pop industry scene, and names like Fuzon, Noori, Aks, Ali Zafar and Jal came up and rocked the Pakistani pop music. Strings came up with their album ‘Dhaani’, and enjoyed an extensive success, and they also gave the sound track for Spiderman 2 of Hollywood. The Pakistani pop song ‘Chaaye chaaye’ is a standout favourite of all times. So, this is proved that the Pakistani pop music industry is moving forward with more rich flavours and confidence.
